Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats came into Sunday's game looking for the sweep of the Asheville Tourists. After a 30 minute delay to the start of the game, Asheville kept the Gnats off the board to win 2-0 at Historic Grayson Stadium.

The Tourists (21-14/53-52) catcher Robbie Perkins led off the sixth with a single. Left fielder Max White doubled to center to put two runners in scoring position for Asheville. An RBI-single from second baseman Shane Hoelscher scored the only two runs of the game off Gnats starter Martires Arias (5-5). Arias was saddled with the tough luck loss after he tossed 6.0 innings allowing just four hits and struck out six.

The Gnats (18-17/57-48) managed just one extra-base hit on Sunday, a double from DH Michael Katz. Shortstop Luis Guillorme and catcher Natanael Ramos each had two hits in the game. Tourists' starter Jesus Tinoco (1-0) earned the win in his debut for Asheville after tossing six shutout innings and struck out seven.

Savannah relievers Christian Montgomery, Luis Mateo, and Tim Peterson combined for three shutout innings of relief.

The Sand Gnats will travel to Rome to take on the Braves at State Mutual Stadium. The Gnats will send RHP Michael Gibbons (1-3, 3.00) to the mound, while the Braves will start LHP Yean Carlos Gil (1-4, 4.05). Savannah will return home on August 11th to take on the Rome Braves at Historic Grayson Stadium at 7:05.
