Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 2, 2015) - Despite home runs from Eddy Alvarez and Nolan Earley, the Lynchburg Hillcats scored six runs in the eighth inning to come from behind and knock off Winston-Salem 8-3 on Sunday, thus grabbing the three-game series at BB&T Ballpark.

Winston-Salem (23-14, 53-54) reliever Euclides Leyer (2-2) was into his second inning of work with the Dash on top 3-2 in the eighth. An error, walk and infield single loaded the bases with nobody out. Leyer fanned Claudio Bautista and retired Ivan Castillo on an infield fly. However, just one out away from getting out of the jam, Leyer plunked Yhoxian Medina to turn the carousel and knot the score at three.

Lynchburg's LeVon Washington greeted new Dash reliever Michael Ynoa by pummeling a grand slam to right to break open the game. Clint Frazier crushed the next pitch to left for a home run that capped the go-ahead eighth and put the Hillcats up 8-3.

Antonio Romero worked around a hit and a walk during the final two innings to seal the series win for the Hillcats (21-17, 54-54).

Medina and Washington began the game against Winston starter Jordan Guerrero with singles. Three batters later, Paul Hendrix punched an RBI single to right to place Lynchburg on top 1-0.

Alvarez homered off Hillcats starter Luis Lugo with two outs in the third to tie the game at one. After Lynchburg scored a run on a Castillo sacrifice fly in the fourth, another solo shot, this time by Earley in the fifth frame, again knotted the game.

The Dash grabbed the advantage for the first time in the seventh. Jeremy Dowdy began the inning with a base hit. Three batters later, Cleuluis Rondon reached on an error that advanced Dowdy to second. Alvarez slapped a double down the left field line, plating Dowdy to make it 3-2. However, Rondon was thrown out at the plate 7-6-2 to end the frame.

After an off day Monday, the Dash begin a critical three-game set in Carolina on Tuesday. Carson Fulmer (0-0, 6.75 ERA), the White Sox first-round pick this year, makes the start against the Mudcats' Blair Walters (5-4, 2.59 ERA). Pregame radio coverage is available at 6:45 p.m., with the first pitch at 7 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App.

The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark on Friday following a three-game series in Carolina. All fans can enjoy a Fireworks Show, presented by Grand Rental Station, after Winston-Salem's series opener with the Salem Red Sox. For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
