New York Boulders News Release

(LITTLE FALL, NJ) - There was no shortage of offense in the Rockland Boulders 10-4 victory over the New Jersey Jackals Sunday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Boulders (38-26) hold a one and a half game lead in the Can-Am standings, while the Jackals (37-28) are tied for the second place spot.

Rockland started the scoring in the first inning when Stephen Cardullo singled off of Jackals' starter John Walter to drive in Junior Arrojo for an early 1-0 lead. The Jackals answered in the bottom of the inning when Mark Threlkeld drilled an RBI single off of Rockland starter Alex Gouin, tying the game at 1-1.

The Jackals jumped out to their first lead in the third inning when Leandro Castro doubled in AJ Kirby-Jones before an error by Gouin allowed Castro to score on the next at bat, giving the Jackals a 3-1 lead.

Rockland cut into New Jersey's lead in the sixth when Walter gave up a walk with the bases loaded allowing Jared McDonald to score. McDonald ranks No. 2 in the Can-Am with 55 runs scored this season.

The Boulders batted around and scored eight runs in a seventh inning offensive explosion that included five hits, four walks an error. Joe Maloney's base clearing double with the bases loaded highlighted the big inning that put the Boulders up 10-3.

The game stagnated until the ninth inning when Kirby-Jones scored on a two-out fielder's choice against Boulders' reliever Daniel Carela to cut the deficit to 10-4. However, the rally wasn't enough as Carela ended the game on the next at bat with a fly-out to left field.

Gouin (5-2) picked up the win with two earned runs and a strikeout in seven innings, while New Jersey reliever Donnie Joseph picked up the loss after surrendering three earned runs in one-third of an inning in relief.

The Boulders will take on the Jackals again Monday, August 2 at 7:05 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium.
