Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, W.V. - August 2, 2015) - The West Virginia Power lost in the series finale to the Lakewood BlueClaws by a 5-3 final. The loss means West Virginia failed to complete the four-game sweep but the Power did take the series with three victories to one loss.

The Power struck for the first run of the game with two outs in the first inning. Connor Joe hit an opposite field double and scored two pitches later on a Michael Suchy single to center.

Colten Brewer tossed three scoreless innings before he ran into trouble in the fourth. After walking the first two batters in the inning and surrendering an infield single to load the bases, Brewer struck out the next two batters but surrendered a first-pitch grand slam to Joel Fisher.

West Virginia's deficit was cut in half in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Chase Simpson which plated Jerrick Suiter, but the BlueClaws responded their next time up. Emmanuel Marrero scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch from Julio Vivas which made it a 5-2 game.

The Power added their final run of the game in the ninth inning. Erik Forgione hit his first career triple in the South Atlantic League and scored on an RBI groundout from Elvis Escobar. Jordan Luplow drew a two-out walk to bring the tying run to the plate but the Power failed to complete the rally.

Brewer (3-9) took the loss after he surrendered four runs over six innings while Lakewood starter Will Morris (4-0) earned the victory. Matt Hockenberry worked the ninth inning to earn his 11th save of the season.
