Rafters Seek to Sweep Battle Creek

August 2, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Battle Creek, Mich.- The Rafters won their 27th game of the summer last night, as the highest single season win total in franchise history is still within their grasp. 31 wins is the franchise record, so the Rafters would need to go 5-4 in their last nine games. The 2011 Northwoods League champions will be playing their final home game of the summer this evening. The Rafters look to play spoilers, in their 2nd to last road game of the summer.

David Calderon (Morehead State) is the probable starter for the Rafters this evening. The right hander would be making his first start of the Northwoods League season. The Rafters offense came to play last night, as they accumulated 14 hits in last nights 9-4 win. Mitchell McGeein (Eastern Michigan) blasted his 9th home run of the summer tonight in the 9-4 win. Zack Domingues (Long Beach State) had a three hit game and scored three runs. All-Star Brock Carpenter (Seattle) also had a multi-hit game with 2 RBI's. Ernie Clement (Virginia) scored twice while getting on base four times in five plate appearances. Battle Creek will start Edgar Sanchez (Prairie View A&M) in their home finale. He's 4-1 with a 3.33 ERA this summer. He was scheduled to start last night's contest, but had his start pushed back after Battle Creek was forced to play 36 innings in 2 days against Kalamazoo.

The Rafters return home for a tripleheader tomorrow against the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Monday August 3rd. First pitch will be at 4:05 PM. Tickets are still available for all remaining Rafters home games, call 715-424-5400 or buy online at RaftersBaseball.com.
