Auburn Doubledays News Release
Tonight's Game: It's the rubber match of the three game series between the Doubledays and the Renegades. Cameron Varga starts for Hudson Valley and his 3.33 ERA takes the hill to face Jefry Rodriguez for Auburn and his 5.15 ERA. The Doubledays are 1-4 in rubber matches this year with wins over State College, Mahoning Valley, Vermont, and Aberdeen.
Last Game: The Doubledays beat the Renegades 1-0 in a pitcher's duel. Taylor Hearn started for Auburn and didn't give up a hit until a single with two outs in the fifth. Hearn's final line: ND, 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, and 3 K's. Benton Moss started for the Renegades and was good, but not good enough. His line was: L, 6 IP, 4H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, and 4 K.
Since 2010 vs. the Renegades: The Doubledays lead the series against the Renegades 8-7 since 2010. This is how the five three-game series have turned out in each of the past five years: 2010 2-1 at Hudson Valley, 2011 1-2 at Auburn, 2012 1-2 at Auburn, 2013 3-0 at Hudson Valley, and 2014 1-2 at Auburn.
Bullpen Domination: Auburn's 'pen has been dominant over the course of the season recording a 2.61 ERA (59 ER in 203.1 IP). The starting pitching hasn't been as fortunate recording a 5.28 ERA (91 ER in 155 IP). Also of note, the Doubledays have surrendered 92 runs in the first three innings combined (31, 32, and 29 in the first through third respectively). Those 92 runs account for 49% of the runs Auburn's pitching staff has given up this year (187 total).
Robles On Base: The 18-year-old was promoted to Auburn from the Gulf Coast League back on July 19th and had gotten on base in all 12 games he's played in since then until he went 0-3 last night. In those 12 games, Robles has recorded at least one hit in nine of those games, which includes a 7-game hit streak in the middle. The only two times Robles didn't record a hit (7/20 and 7/29), Robles reached on a walk. Last night, the center fielder extended his streak with a single and a walk in Auburn's 4-2 loss. The longest on-base streak for the Doubledays this season was Andrew Stevenson's 15 in a row from June 30th to July 17th.
The Wrong Kind of Highs: Last time Jefry Rodriguez was on the mound on July 28th, the Doubledays' pitching staffs set the wrong kind of season highs in a 10-0 loss to Aberdeen. Jefry Rodriguez gave up the most hits any pitcher has surrendered this season with 12. Rodriguez, John Feliz, and Connor Overton also gave up a combined 17 hits, which set a new high for most hits by an opposing team this season.
Going for the Series Victory: The last time the Doubledays won a series against the Hudson Valley Renegades at Falcon Park was back in 2009. The Doubledays took the series 2-1 August 14-16. The last time Auburn won a season series home or away against Hudson Valley was in 2013 when the Doubledays swept the Renegades on the road.
