Spokane Shuts out Ems in Front of Sellout Crowd

SPOKANE, Wash. - Emerson Martinez paced the Indians to the tune of five scoreless innings and the Indians shuout the Emeralds 4-0 in front of a soldout crowd of 7,046 fans at Avista Stadium on Saturday night. It was Fireworks Night presented by The Black Book, KREM 2-TV, 93.7 The Mountain and SportsRadio 1510 KGA.
Martinez performed masterfully, containing the Eugene offense by allowing only two hits and walking three batters. His four strikeouts bumped his season total to 32, second on the team behind fellow starter Cody Palmquist.
Nick Green added three more innings and only two hits, with Jeffrey Springs closing out with a one-hit ninth.
Spokane first struck with a pair of doubles by All-Star Yeyson Yrizarri and Todd McDonald in the second inning. McDonald scored Yrizarri, then a Ti'Quan Forbes' sac fly scored Dean Long from third. Long singled home Jamie Potts on a line drive to left in the sixth to extend Spokane's lead even further.
McDonald finished 3-for-4 to raise his average to .229.
Darius Day added two hits and two more stolen bases to his season total of nine.
