Lexington County, S.C. - Behind the power of twelve combined strikeouts against, the Lexington County Blowfish fell to the Edenton Steamers 3-2 on Friday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

In front of a sold-out crowd of 2,573 fans, Blowfish bats were held quiet. Regularly averaging over 14 hits per home game over the past month, the Blowfish could only muster three total hits in this game. One of them was a solo home run by Derek Olenchuk (Newberry) that would tie the game early.

Tyler Lancaster (Spartanburg Methodist) would bring the Blowfish within one in the ninth inning. His RBI groundout scored J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion), who reached on a one-out double, and advanced on a wild pitch.

Edenton would score due in part to miscues. A leadoff error put the first run-scorer aboard, and wild pitch scored the second run. Brandon Sandoval's RBI double in the fourth inning proved decisive.

The Blowfish would spoil a prime scoring opportunity in the first inning, leaving the bases loaded with one out. Aside rom Olenchuk's home run, the Blowfish would only get hits from Crowe and Jared Williams (University of South Carolina).

A combination of Jake Cousins, Dylan Maloney, Jimmy Lynch and Mick Fennell struck out twelve Blowfish batters. Cousins would ring up the side in the fifth inning. Maloney struck out two in his inning of work. Ditto for Lynch.

Blowfish pitching proved just as effective. Heath Holder (Georgia) got the loss, but allowed only a total of two hits and three unearned runs. Brandon White (Lander) continued to show his strength, striking out six batters over four innings.

White's strikeout total stands at 33 in 19.2 innings pitched.

Edenton continued its roll as the best team in the Coastal Plain League. With the win, the Steamers have now won three in a row, and 11 of the last 15 games. They currently stand atop the East, as they did to end the first half.

The Blowfish continue to hold a 1.5 game lead over the Martinsville Mustangs for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Division. The playoff push truly begins now with only four games remaining.

The final fireworks show of the season will fall on Saturday, when the Lexington County Blowfish host the High Point-Thomasville HiToms. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 803-254-FISH, online at blowfishbaseball.com, and at Blowfish on Main (101 East Main Street, Lexington, S.C.).
