Erie SeaWolves News Release
Erie fell short in a comeback effort on Friday night as New Britain took game two of the four game set by a 6-5 final.
The Rock Cats opened up the scoring in the first inning as they jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. David Dahl doubled to lead off the inning and was plated on a Noel Cuevas double. A Mike Tauchman single moved Cuevas to third and put runners on the corners for the Cats'. Tauchman then stole second, and on the throw, Cuevas stole home to put New Britain up 2-0. Jordan Patterson then doubled home Tauchman to cap off scoring in the first.
A walk issued to Wade Gaynor and back-to-back bunt singles by Harold Castro and Wynton Bernard loaded the bases for Erie in the third. Gaynor then scored from third on a Jacoby Jones sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 3-1.
New Britain answered in the bottom half of the inning when Dahl led off with a triple and was brought home on a Tauchman single.
The Cats' added another run in the fourth when Joey Wong doubled and was driven in on a Jan Vasquez single. New Britain increased their lead to 5-1 after four innings of play.
Each team struck for a run in the fifth to make the score 6-2. Miguel Gonzalez led the top half of the inning off for Erie with a double and was plated by a Connor Harrell single. In the bottom half, Cuevas reached on a fielders choice and later scored on Patterson's second double of the game.
Erie added another run in the sixth when Jeff McVaney singled to lead off and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Jason Krizan.
The 'Wolves added two more runs in the eighth when Jones reached on an error and McVaney walked. With two men on, Dominic Ficociello crushed a double that plated Jones from second and McVaney from first, which brought Erie within one. However, the comeback fell short when New Britain shut Erie out in the ninth to take the second game by a 6-5 final.
