Bashing Boesch Leads Bats to 8-5 Win

The Louisville Bats (53-55) started their three game series with an 8-5 victory against the Toledo Mud Hens (45-61) Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field. Designated hitter Brennan Boesch went 4-for-4 with one walk and five RBI to contribute to the victory.
Righty Donn Roach (W 1-1, 6.00) started for the Bats and gained his first win of the season with Louisville. He went seven and one-third, gave up eight hits, and five runs, all earned, walked one, and struck out four and allowed one long ball.
On the mound for the Mud Hens was lefty Kyle Ryan (L, 0-9, 5.26). He went five innings, gave up eleven hits, and six runs, all earned, walked two, and struck out five.
In the first with the bases loaded on three singles, Brennan Boesch singled in the first run, which was followed by two more runs on a fielder's choice and Ramon Cabrera single. The Mud Hens cut the lead in the second to 3-2, on a Daniel Fields single and an RBI from Trayvon Robinson.
Boesch approached another loaded bases opportunity in the third and cleared them with a double to extend the lead to 6-2.
A throwing error by Toledo's second baseman Alexi Casilla scored Hernan Iribarren in the sixth. Toledo's Steven Moya followed in the seventh with a solo homer to make the score, 7-3.
Marc Krauss and Daniel Fields singled in two runs in the eighth to make the score, 7-5. Boesch followed in the home half with a RBI single to finalize the score, 8-5.
Righty Carlos Contreras pitched two-thirds of the seventh and escaped a bases loaded jam with a strikeout of Bryan Holaday. Righty Collin Balester (S, 4) closed the game with a perfect ninth to earn the save.
Tomorrow the Bats continue their series against the Mud Hens at 6:05 pm at Louisville Slugger Field. Projected on the mound for the Bats is righty Matt Buschmann (1-4, 5.31) and righty Thad Weber (4-9, 3.91) for the Mud Hens.
