Latimore's Two Homer Night Carries Baysox

Bowie, Md. - Quincy Latimore won the game for the Baysox Friday night with a walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Latimore's second home run of the night broke a 2-2 tied a propelled the Baysox to a 4-2 win over Trenton.
The win was the Baysox sixth in a row, which ties a season high and also improves the Baysox to a new season-high 15 games over .500 (60-45). The Baysox have the best record in the Eastern League and lead second place Altoona by four games in the Western Division.
Latimore gave the Baysox an early lead with a solo home to left field against Trenton starter Eric Ruth to lead-off the bottom of the second inning.
The Baysox added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning against Trenton reliever Cesar Vargas. Latimore hit a lead-off triple to right field and scored on a two-out Garabez Rosa single to right field that gave Bowie a 2-0 lead.
Trenton came back to tie the game in the top of the eighth inning against Baysox reliever Jason Garcia. Rico Noel was hit-by-a-pitch to start the inning and he moved to second base when Jake Cave reached on a fielder's choice. Ali Castillo brought Noel home with a single to right field and Cave then scored on a wild pitch to make the score 2-2.
Latimore was the hero again in the bottom of the ninth inning, facing Trenton reliever Conor Mullee. Brandon Snyder drew a two-out walk that brought Latimore to the plate where he launched the game-winning home run over the left field fence. It was Latimore's second multi-home run game of the season.
Making his first start of the season, Gene Escat was sharp for the Baysox. He threw five scoreless innings and allowed just two hits while striking out three in the no decision. Reliever Tim Berry threw 1.2 scoreless innings, not allowing a hit while walking three batters. Garcia pitched 1.1 innings and allowed two runs on one hit and a hit batter. Baysox reliever Richard Rodriguez struck out the side in a scoreless ninth inning as he picked up his first win of the season.
Mullee took the loss for Trenton, recording the first two outs in the ninth inning before giving up the two-run homer to Latimore.
The Baysox are home through Sunday, Aug. 2 for a four-game homestand against the Trenton Thunder. Saturday is Superhero Night with a pre-game concert by kids bank Rocknoceros beginning at 4:15 p.m. and there will be postgame fireworks.
