Three-Run Sixth Inning Propels Hudson Valley Over Auburn

Auburn, NY (7/31/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Auburn Doubledays by a score of 4-2 on Friday evening at Falcon Park. With the win, the Renegades improved their record to 20-19 while the Doubledays fell to 18-21.

After the first three innings went by with neither team scoring, Auburn's right fielder Rhett Wiseman doubled in the bottom of the fourth inning and moved to third on an error. Then with two outs, he scored on a wild pitch to give the Doubledays a 1-0 lead.

The Renegades picked up three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Left fielder Manny Sanchez doubled with one out and moved to third on a single by third baseman Alex Schmidt. After Schmidt stole second base, first baseman Nic Wilson drove in Sanchez on a RBI sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1. Center fielder Angel Moreno drove in Schmidt on a single and moved to third on an error to give Hudson Valley a 2-1 lead. Later in the inning, he came around to score on a wild pitch to give the Renegades a two-run advantage

Angel Yepez (3-1) started for Hudson Valley and picked up the win. In five innings of work, he allowed one run off four hits and struck out three batters. Reece Karalus came in to relieve Yepez in the bottom of the sixth and tossed three shutout innings while striking out three.

Hudson Valley added a run in the top of the eighth inning to take a 4-1 lead as Schmidt singled with one out, moved to third on a single by Wilson and scored on a wild pitch. The Doubledays picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth but Renegades reliever Brandon Koch picked up his third save of the season.

Auburn's relief pitcher Grant Borne (1-1) took the loss as he allowed four runs and two earned runs in three innings pitched.

Notes: Angel Moreno picked up his first three-hit game of the season as the Renegades center fielder went three-for-four with a run scored and a RBI. He has a hit in five of his last six starts dating back to July 24th and during that stretch, Moreno is hitting .333 (8-24) with two runs scored and three RBI.

The Renegades continue their three-game series against the Auburn Doubledays Saturday, August 1st, with first pitch set for at 7:05pm. Hudson Valley returns home on Monday, August 3rd at 7:05pm to face the Tri-City ValleyCats. Monday is the "$1,000 Hot Dog Giveaway" at Dutchess Stadium.
