Future Steelheads: Harrison Toms
July 31, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Mississauga Steelheads News Release
Harrison Toms was selected in the 13th round, with the 245th overall pick. Toms comes to the Steelheads from the Toronto Titans of the GTHL.
While most pawned over Titans defencemen Markus Phillips (9th overall to Owen Sound), Nick Grima (25th overall to Peterborough), Robert Proner (30th overall to Saginaw), and Reilly Webb (33rd overall to Hamilton), Toms flew under the radar a bit, but was always right there in terms of his skill. Toms was on the board as the 13th round approached, and the Steelheads were happy to pull the trigger on a late-round steal.
Toms played in 16 games in the regular season with the Titans minor midget team, and appeared in one with the Midget AAA squad as a call-up. With his minor midget team, Toms had a goal and two assists. In four tournament games at the 2015 OHL Cup, Toms tallied an assist.
The Toronto Titans had a very strong contingent in 2014-15. 12 players from that roster were taken at the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. Toms was part of a very deep defensive core on this Titans team. He played in the third pairing on that team, but there was never a drop-off when Harrison took to the ice.
