MOBILE, Ala. - The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Mobile BayBears at 8:05 p.m. ET at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Right-handed relief pitcher Brian Ellington has been transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. This season Ellington pitched in 25 games in relief for the Suns, going 4-1 with a 2.51 ERA. In his 43 innings pitched, he struck out 47 batters compared to only 13 walks. This is the first call-up to the Triple-A level in his career.
In a corresponding move, right-handed relief pitcher Casey McCarthy has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. McCarthy with the Hammerheads is 0-3 with a 2.15 ERA in 21 appearances with a pair of saves. This is the second call-up to Jacksonville for McCarthy this season, who was with the Suns from early May to mid-June. In 11 appearances with the Suns, McCarthy was 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA in 15 innings on the mound.
The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.
The Suns and BayBears will square off once again Friday night from Hank Aaron Stadium with a first pitch set for 8:05 p.m. ET. The Suns will send out right-hander Scott Lyman (0-6, 6.64 ERA) while the BayBears will counter with righty Blayne Weller (1-3, 5.66 ERA).
