Pigs Open Series with Norfolk
July 31, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will look to snap a three-game skid when they open a three-game set with the Norfolk Tides on Friday night. First pitch from Coca-Cola Park is set for 7:05 p.m. The IronPigs enter play in fourth place in the North Division at 47-59 after dropping three of four in a home-and-home set with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Tides currently sport the best record in the IL at 61-43 after taking two of three from Pawtucket.
RHP Jason Berken (5-7, 3.50) gets the ball for the Pigs in the series opener. The Green Bay, Wis. native got a no-decision on Sunday vs. Syracuse when he gave up three runs on five hits to go along with two walks and three strikeouts over five innings of work. Over his last 5 GS, Berken is 1-3 with a 3.13 ERA. With runners in scoring position this season, opponents are hitting just .195 (17-87) against the right-hander.
LHP Chris Jones (6-5, 2.78) will be on the bump for Norfolk Friday night. Jones was tagged with the loss vs. Durham on Saturday after allowing two runs on eight hits while walking three and fanning eight over 6.2 IP. The southpaw will be making his second start of the year vs. Lehigh Valley. Back on June 11 at Harbor Park, Jones allowed just one hit over seven shutout frames against the Pigs.
