Ellis Shuts Down Drillers to Improve to 5-1

North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers won their sixth straight game against the Tulsa Drillers with Thursday night's final 3-1 at Dickey-Stephens Park.
RHP Chris Ellis (W, 5-1) tossed 6.2 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits with four walks and two strikeouts. The outing was Ellis' longest in nine Double-A starts.
Arkansas jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on doubles from 3B Brian Hernandez and RF Cal Towey.
The Travs added a run in the third on a DH Raywilly Gomez RBI double and one in the fourth thanks to a CF Chad Hinshaw RBI single.
All 10 Travs with a plate appearance in the game recorded at least one hit.
Arkansas went 5-for-8 leading off innings including four doubles.
LHP Chris O'Grady (H, 8) worked the final out of the seventh and the entire eighth for the Travs. The southpaw surrendered a home run to 1B Lars Anderson in the eighth, the lone base runner against O'Grady and lone run of the night for Tulsa.
RHP Danny Reynolds (S, 6) notched the save with a scoreless ninth. With runners on first and second and two outs in the ninth, Towey made a sliding catch on a line drive in right-center to end the game.
Arkansas had 20 at-bats with runners in scoring position (4-for-20) a night after registering 27 at-bats in the same situation.
With the win, Arkansas improved to 9-2 against the Drillers in their last 11 meetings and 17-7 overall this season against Tulsa. 16 of the Travs' 17 wins have been decided by three runs or less.
The Travs have now won seven of their last games overall to improve to 55-48 on the season and 19-15 in the second half.
Arkansas and Tulsa will square off in game two of the four-game series on Friday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. LHP Nate Smith (8-4, 2.54) will toe the rubber for the Travs and will be opposed by RHP Jharel Cotton (4-2, 2.27). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
