Power Starts Fast, Cruises to Win

(Charleston, W.V. - July 30, 2015) - The West Virginia Power defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 7-4 on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. With the win, the Power expanded their lead in the Northern Division standings to four games.
West Virginia scored five runs in the first two innings to take a 5-0 lead against the BlueClaws. Michael Suchy's two-run double in the first plated Tito Polo and Jordan Luplow. The double also put Connor Joe on third and he scored on a sacrifice fly from Jerrick Suiter. In the second, Tyler Filliben drew a one-out walk and scored on Luplow's two-run home run to center.
Stephen Tarpley was sharp in the first couple innings but ran into trouble in the third and fourth innings. The lefty gave up three runs in the third and another in the fourth but didn't surrender any hits in the fifth or sixth.
After Tarpley's exit, the Power provided the lefty with two extra runs of support. Pablo Reyes scored on a wild pitch in the sixth and Joe pulled an RBI single in the seventh that plated Polo and gave the Power a 7-4 lead.
Tarpley (8-2) picked up the win after he allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits over six innings. Austin Davis (2-4) took the loss for Lakewood. John Sever worked three innings in relief to earn his third save of the season.
West Virginia (23-10, 60-42) continues the four-game set against Lakewood (19-14, 52-49) on Friday night. The Power will send RHP Yeudy Garcia (9-5, 2.12) against BlueClaws LHP Elniery Garcia (6-7, 3.15). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490, the Power website, and the TuneIn Radio App is slated for 6:45 p.m.
Gates open for Friday's game at 6 p.m. Friday's game will feature postgame fireworks presented by V100 and Goodwill Industries. Friday's contest is also Goodwill Industries Night and South Charleston Night.
