Mississauga Steelheads News Release
Mississauga, ON - With training camp just over a month away, the Steelheads have announced three new additions to their Hockey Operations staff for the 2015-2016 season with the hiring of James Richmond, Jan Egert and Ryan Daniels.
Richmond, a Mississauga native, who will be joining the Steelheads as an assistant coach, has vast experience coaching at all levels. Last season, Richmond was the head coach and general manager for the Aurora Tigers of Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), and was also, and will continue to be, a member of the player development staff for the Los Angeles Kings. Prior to Aurora, he also spent five seasons (2005-2010) as the head coach of the Georgetown Raiders. During his tenure with Aurora, Richmond improved his club's record each season and was named the 2013/14 and 2014/15 OJHL Coach-of-the-Year. In addition to his coaching awards in the OJHL, Richmond is a premier skills development instructor, working with players at the junior and professional levels in North America and Europe.
Jan Egert joins the Steelheads as the assistant general manager after spending two-years with the National Hockey League's Central Scouting Department. Egert graduated with an MBA in Sports Management from Laurentian University in 2011 and has been working with the Mississauga franchise since 2010, most recently serving as scouting coordinator during the 2014/15 season. Egert was also a member of Team Switzerland's coaching staff at the 2015 World Junior Championships in Toronto and Montreal. As the Assistant General Manager, Egert will work closely with current Head Coach and General Manager, James Boyd.
Ryan Daniels joins the Steelheads as the video coach after two successful seasons as the assistant general manager and goaltending coach for the Toronto Patriots of the OJHL. In Daniels' two years with the team, the Patriots won back-to-back Buckland Cup Championships (2013/14 and 2014/15), as well as the Dudley-Hewlitt Cup and a trip to the RBC Cup final in 2013. Daniels spent parts of five seasons in the OHL with Saginaw (2004-2008) and Peterborough (2008-2009) and was selected in the fifth round (151st overall) at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. He continued his hockey career playing Canadian Interuniversity Sport from 2009-2013 at Wilfred Laurier University where he was named OUA West MVP, Top Goalie and first team All-Star for the CIS Men's Hockey in both the 2010/11 and 2012/13 seasons. He completed his studies at Laurier, earning his bachelors of business administration.
Steelheads Head Coach and General Manager, James Boyd is eager to welcome Richmond, Egert, and Daniels to the team, adding "our Hockey Operations Department has been restructured ?with a keen focus on skill development for our players and maximizing the effectiveness of our scouting and player recruitment programs. We look forward to James, Jan and Ryan joining our staff as we continue to make strides to improve our hockey team."
The entire Steelheads staff would like to welcome James, Jan, Ryan and their families to the organization, as we look forward to another exciting season of hardworking hockey at the Hershey Centre. Steelheads training camp is set to start on August 31st with the season kicking off on September 25th at the Hershey Centre against the Ottawa 67s.
