Jackson Generals News Release

Biloxi, Miss. - The Jackson Generals used a three-run sixth inning to take down the Biloxi Shuckers 3-2 in a lengthy game Wednesday night at MGM Park. The win was Jackson's second in a row, and the Generals have now taken five of seven from the league-leading Shuckers this season.

Jackson (10-21, 39-60) seized momentum after a 27-minute rain delay in the top of the fifth inning. Matt Anderson (2-5, 4.24) worked around a pair of baserunners in the bottom of the frame to keep Biloxi's lead at one.

Down 1-0, the Generals sent nine men to the plate in the decisive sixth inning. Biloxi's Brooks Hall (7-7, 4.70) had struck out six batters in five scoreless innings entering the frame, but Tyler Smith took him deep to lead off the inning and tie the game. Julio Morban followed with a double and Dan Paolini's base knock drove him in from second to put Jackson on top 2-1.

Biloxi (14-17, 57-42) would go through three pitchers in the inning. Manny Barreda entered after Paolini's single, but the Generals loaded the bases against the righty. Tyler Bortnick's RBI single to right field made it 3-1 and knocked Barreda out of the contest.

The three runs would be enough, as Jackson held on for the victory. Andrew Kittredge did run into some trouble in his first outing since returning to Jackson. After walking Josh Fellhauer to lead off the seventh, Kittredge gave up an RBI double to Nick Shaw that cut Jackson's lead in half. With the tying run on second and nobody out, the righty struck out Orlando Arcia and got Michael Reed to line into an inning-ending double play to preserve the Generals' 3-2 lead.

Kittredge struck out two in a perfect eighth inning, and Paul Fry (S, 2) earned his second Double-A save in as many games with a scoreless ninth inning. Fry's strikeout of Taylor Green was the 200th of his Minor League career.

Edwin Diaz was solid as Jackson's starter. The right-handed pitching prospect struck out five in four innings while allowing just a run. Biloxi took an early lead on an RBI triple from Victor Roache in the first inning, but Diaz managed to work himself out of danger in the second.

The Shuckers loaded the bases for Orlando Arcia, who was hitless in his last 18 at-bats. The 20-year-old shortstop got a hold of Diaz's 0-1 offering, but Jabari Henry made a leaping catch at the wall to keep the score 1-0. Biloxi went 0-for-10 with men in scoring position Wednesday.

In addition to his third home run of the year, Tyler Smith had a bunt single and two walks. Julio Morban had a pair of hits and Aderlin Rodriguez singled three times in the contest as well for Jackson. The Generals have 22 hits over the first two games of the series.

Jackson goes for a third-straight win and a series victory Thursday night. Stephen Landazuri (0-2, 4.14) is expected to pitch for Jackson opposite Biloxi's Tyler Wagner (7-5, 2.53), who pitched early this year for the Milwaukee Brewers.
