Saints Ride Seven Run First to 12-6 Victory over RailCats

ST. PAUL, MN (July 29, 2015) - After a two day break the St. Paul Saints offense looked refreshed and ready to go as they scored seven run in the first inning and walloped the Gary SouthShore Railcats 12-6 on Wednesday night at U.S. Steel Yard. The win improves the Saints to 48-15 and they maintain a 19.5 game lead in the division.
The game started off when Alonzo Harris tripled and scored on a groundout by Willie Argo to make it 1-0. The next six Saints hitters all reached safely as Vinny DiFazio singled, Ian Gac walked and Angelo Songco doubled home DiFazio to make it 2-0. On the play Gac left the ballgame with an injury and Joey Paciorek pinch ran for him. Mike Kvasnicka made it 4-0 with a two-run single. Anthony Phillips singled and Ryan Lashley doubled home Kvasnicka to make it 5-0. After a strikeout to Dan Kaczrowski, Harris singled home Phillips to make it 6-0. With runners at the corners Harris tried to steal second, but Railcats pitcher Andy Roberts threw over to first. With Harris in the rundown Lashley broke for home and Jose Sermo's throw home went to the backstop allowing Lashley to score making it 7-0. Railcats starter Roberts lasted 0.2 innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out one.
The Railcats answered in the bottom of the inning when they loaded the bases on a couple of singles and a hit by pitch. Sermo doubled home a pair to make it 7-2.
In the fourth DiFazio led off with a double and moved to third on an infield single by Paciorek. Songco then crushed a three-run homer to right, his 10th of the season, to make it 10-2. Songco finished the night 3-5 with a double, home run, four RBI and two runs scored.
The Saints pounded out 16 hits with eight of the 10 players who got into the game recording a hit. Harris was 3-6 with a triple, RBI, run scored and a stolen base and Kaczrowski extended his career high hitting streak to 13 as he went 2-5 with an RBI.
The same two teams meet in the second game of the three game series on Thursday night at 7:10 p.m. The Saints send RHP Robert Coe (6-2, 3.28) to the mound against Railcats RHP Travis McGee (1-0, 4.32). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
