Bees Lose Seesaw Affair with Cougars, 5-4

(Geneva-IL)- The Burlington Bees (47-55) couldn't fend off the Kane County Cougars (61-40), losing game two of the series, 5-4, Wednesday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva.

Wade Wass opened the scoring on Wednesday night, smashing his sixth homer of the season, a solo shot, putting the Bees on top 1-0 in the second inning. Ayendy Perez walked for the second time, reaching first with one out in the top of the third inning. Deavid Fletcher collected his first hit as a Bee, shooting a single to right, placing runners at the corners. Tim Arakawa extended his hitting streak to 14 games and doubled the Bees lead with a single to left, scoring Perez, pushing the Bees' advantage to 2-0.

After Kane County got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, the game remained 2-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning when Kane County took the lead, scoring two runs on a pair of two out singles by Joe Munoz and Victor Reyes, putting the Cougars on top, 3-2.

Tim Arakawa and Trever Allen both singled with one out, placing runners at the corners. After a strikeout, Zach Houchins lined a single to center, scoring Arakawa, tying the game at three. Kane County came right back to take the lead again in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a passed ball scoring Cody Regis, giving the Cougars the 4-3 lead.

With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Trevor Gretzky walked and then moved to second on a Perez ground out. David Fletcher then singled through the left side, scoring Gretzky, tying the game up at four. Henry Castillo started the bottom of the ninth inning by ripping a double to right. After a single by Michael Perez, Colin Bray put down a bunt and reached on a single, loading the bases. Joe Munoz ended the game by hitting a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Castillo.

Bees' starter Keynan Middleton pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four in a no decision. Wei-Chieh Huang (6-1) earned the win for Kane County while Eduardo Paredes (0-2) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Cougars finish the series on Thursday at 6:30 when Justin Anderson starts for the Bees against Markus Solbach for Kane County.
