Barnstormers Top Bluefish For Second Straight Night

(Lancaster, PA- July 29, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (13-6, 39-50) were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers (12-7, 40-49) 3-2 at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Wednesday night to take the first two of a three game series between first place ballclubs. Lancaster has now won all six head to head meetings between the teams in 2015, with each victory coming on their home field.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Cody Scarpetta (1-1) was dealt the loss, pitching five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking three, striking out five, hitting one batter, and throwing one wild pitch. Lancaster Starting Pitcher Nate Reed (2-6) earned the victory, tossing five and one-third innings, giving up one run on six hits, striking out two and not issuing a free pass. Pete Andrelczyk tossed a scoreless ninth inning in picking up his fifth save.

Lancaster took a 1-0 lead off Scarpetta in the bottom half of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Luke Hughes, bringing home Kent Matthes who led off the frame with a single. The Barnstormers would add an insurance run off Scarpetta in the fifth inning when Zach Collier crossed the plate on a wild pitch to give the hone team a 2-0 edge.

Bridgeport cut the deficit to a single run at 2-1 in the sixth inning off Reed as Josh Prince drove in Ethan Chapman with an RBI single after Chapman led off the inning with a base knock of his own. Lancaster would regain a two-run lead at 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth on a run-scoring single by Anderson Feliz, scoring Charlie Cutler who opened the inning with a walk. For the second time in as many innings the 'Fish made it a one-run baseball game in the seventh on an Ethan Chapman RBI single which plated Brandon Jones to make the score 3-2 Barnstormers. Lancaster's duo out of the bullpen of Marcus Walden and Andrelczyk gave up five hits in the final two innings but were able to work around the threats without allowing a run and the Barnstromers had their second win over the Bluefish in as many nights. Chapman led the way for Bridgeport with three of their 12 hits overall.

Bridgeport plays the third of a seven game road trip on Thursday night against the Lancaster Barnstormers. The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday, August 5th when they welcome in the Lancaster Barnstormers. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Bobby Valentine Bobblehead. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
