Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs defeated the Morehead City Marlins 7-5 Wednesday night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

SwampDogs starting pitcher Chris Stewart (Jr./UNC-Pembroke) allowed a two-run home run to the second batter he faced, but other than that was stellar, as the Dogs bats came alive in third inning.

The SwampDogs sent 10 men to the plate scoring five runs, with the big blow coming on a two-run single by Richard Carter (Jr./Cumberland) to knock Marlins starter Ryan Sapp out of the box and take a lead they would never relinquish.

Insurance runs were added in the fourth and eighth innings, as Austin Upshaw (Fr./Kennesaw State) starred at the plate going 5-5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Upshaw leads the team with 25 RBIs.

Stewart got the win for the SwampDogs, improving to 1-0 on the season, while Sapp got the loss, falling to 0-1. Alex Siddle (Jr./Southeast Missouri) recorded the save, his third of the season

The SwampDogs (18-32) have a off day Thursday before heading up to Holly Springs on Friday to take on the Salamanders. The final home game of the season for the SwampDogs is Saturday against the Edenton Steamers at 7:05, followed by the final fireworks extravaganza of the summer!
