Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release

WASHINGTON, PA- July 29, 2015 - The Pennsylvania Rebellion began to muster up some runs in the sixth inning against Akron on Wednesday, July 29, but the deficit proved to be too much as the Racers were able to hold on for the 4-2 early morning victory. Starting pitcher Sarah Pauly took the win while Rebellion hurler Emily Weiman suffered the loss.

The Racers were able to give Pauly a lead in their first at-bats thanks to a solo home run from center fielder Taylor Schlopy. Third baseman Kelley Montalvo singled later in the first to push the Akron lead to 2-0 early.

Akron shortstop Jill Barrett pushed the deficit to 3-0 in the top of the second when she scored on a Pennsylvania error. Barrett added to the Racers lead in the sixth as well, collecting an RBI single that scored second baseman Ashley Thomas.

The Rebellion bats answered the 4-0 deficit with two runs of their own in the latter half of the sixth. After a leadoff walk from designated player Olivia Watkins and a base hit from second baseman Haruna Sakamoto placed two runners on the base paths, a sacrifice bunt form right fielder Alexa Peterson set the stage for pinch hitter Kristyn Sandberg, who was able to capitalize on the second and third situation with an RBI single. The Rebellion cut the Akron lead in half later in the inning thanks to an RBI single from catcher Mandy Ogle.

A solid inning of relief from Dagmar Bloeming held Akron scoreless in the seventh. While the Rebellion looked to be sparking a comeback when left fielder Cheyenne Cordes singled to center, a line drive double play proved to be the final nail in the coffin for PA.

The Rebellion will return to action on Friday, July 31 when they travel to Rosemont to take on the Chicago Bandits in a three-game series. Fans can listen in on the play-by-play at msasports.net/broadcasts.
