 New Jersey Jackals

Jackals Closing in on First Place

July 29, 2015 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

August is quickly approaching, and that means the Can-Am League will soon be entering the last month of its regular season. The New Jersey Jackals have been clinging on the second place for quite some time now, but well-played baseball in recent weeks has allowed them to close the gap between them and the first-place Rockland Boulders to only half a game. This season will mark the first time that there will be two rounds, a semi-final and a championship round each consisting of five games, in the Can-Am League's postseason, which means that four teams will make the playoffs. The top three teams in the league, Rockland, the Jackals, and the Quebec Capitales; are currently locked in a tight battle for first place with only one and a half games separating the three. The Trois-Rivieres Aigles, Ottawa Champions, and Sussex County Miners, each with a record below .500, are fighting for the remaining playoff spot, the closest being Trois-Rivieres at seven games out of first.

In the last week, the Jackals have played four games, three at home and one on the road, against Sussex County, and one road game in Rockland, and they have been on fire. The first three games against Sussex County took place in Little Falls and saw the Jackals win each one, outscoring the Miners 28-6. They now have a four-game winning streak at home and have outscored their opposition 38-8 over that stretch. They unfortunately lost the next game in Sussex County on Sunday the 26th 0-5, but it appeared to be only a momentary lapse as two days later they won a pivotal match up with the Boulders in Rockland 7-6. They will begin a three-game inter-league series with the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association tonight before playing three more with the Boulders (one in Rockland and two in New Jersey) to begin August.
