Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A season-high 18 hits from the Braves overpowered the Barons Tuesday night at Regions Field, leading to a 12-3 loss in the first game of the five game series.

Birmingham starting pitcher Tyler Danish (7-7, 4.75 ERA) was roughed up in his 19th start of the year, allowing seven runs on nine hits in four innings of work. Mississippi starter Greg Ross (4-9, 4.63 ERA) shined in his first appearance against the Barons, striking out seven over seven innings.

All but one Brave in the Mississippi lineup came up with a hit. Designated hitter KD Kang put the first run on the board with a solo homer in the first before the Braves scored six in the fourth, two in the sixth and seventh, and a final run in the eighth.

The Barons mustered three runs in the final three innings to spoil the potential shutout. Rob Brantly singled home a run in the seventh to put Birmingham on the map, and RBI singles from Joey DeMichele and Marcus Lemon made it a nine-run deficit in the ninth.

DeMichele ended the night 3-for-4, while both Lemon and Brantly recorded two hits each. Christian Marrero, 1-for-3 on the night, scored two runs, and third baseman Nicky Delmonico accounted for the ninth Barons hit.

The Barons fell to 21-9 in the second half with the loss but stay 3.0 games ahead of second-place Montgomery. The Biscuits dropped a game against Tennessee Tuesday, dropping their record to 18-12. The Smokies, despite the win, find themselves 8.0 games off the pace.
