Senators Fall in Giolito's Debut

July 28, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators offense was almost completely quiet in top prospect Lucas Giolito's debut as Harrisburg fell 5-0 to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The Senators (50-54) have lost eight of 10.

Giolito sailed through his first two innings, retiring all six batters he faced. However, New Hampshire touched Giolito for four consecutive singles to score two runs in the third. Then in the sixth, Kevin Nolan walked, Ryan Schimpf doubled and K.C. Hobson ended Giolito's outing with a two-run single. Giolito finished the night with five innings pitched, allowing six hits, four runs, three walks and three strikeouts.

In his first appearance with Harrisburg since being optioned from Washington, Abel De Los Santos sent down the next three batters in the sixth. He also pitched a scoreless seventh, while stranding the bases loaded to extend his scoreless streak to 17 innings. Nick Lee started the eighth and allowed a run on two hits while getting two outs. Gilberto Mendez came on to get the final out on a strikeout to strand the bases loaded.

The Senators, facing spot starter Scott Barnes, did not have a baserunner through five innings. Barnes was relieved after five by Jimmy Cordero, who promptly walked the first two he faced. However, the Senators stranded Jose Lozada at third to end the sixth inning. Harrisburg's first hit didn't come until the eighth inning when Shawn Pleffner singled through the right side. Wilmer Difo added a second Senators' hit when he doubled in the ninth inning.

The finale of the three-game series will begin tomorrow afternoon at 12:05 p.m. The pregame show will begin at 11:50 a.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
