RiverDogs Splash Drive with 2-1 Victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston RiverDogs squeezed out a 2-1 victory in the series finale against the Greenville Drive on Tuesday afternoon's 'Big Splash Day' in front of 4,060 fans, most of them summer camp kids, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Devyn Bolasky drew a one-out walk for the RiverDogs (12-20 second half, 46-56 overall) in the bottom of the third and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Slade Heathcott hit a two-out infield single, and Bolasky scored when the pitcher Reed Reilly dropped the throw covering first base.

Greenville (14-18, 52-50) tied the game in the top of the fifth. Yoan Moncada hit a one-out ground-rule double to right, and then Danny Mars hit an RBI single to center two batters later.

Charleston took the lead back for good in the bottom half of the inning. Collin Slaybaugh led off the inning with a single and scored two batters later when a ground ball off the bat of Bolasky kicked off of the shortstop Javier Guerra and caromed into center.

Joey Maher (2-4) pitched six innings and only allowed one run on six hits. Chance Adams and Caleb Frare combined to shut out the Drive for the final three innings. Frare earned his third save of the season. Reilly (4-5) gave up both of Charleston's runs and took the loss, despite both runs being unearned.

Heathcott went 2-for-3 with two infield singles in his third start with Charleston. Both of the singles were to the right side off of the lefty's bat. He completed seven-full innings before being lifted for Griff Gordon in the eighth. Through the three games the New York Yankees outfielder is 2-9 at the plate.

BALLPARK FUN: The BALLpark was turned into a WATERpark as the RiverDogs celebrated Big Splash Day with an afternoon game at The Joe. Many kids came out and had fun with water balloons, water squirters, sprinklers, and other water toys. The weather was hot, and all fans left the ballpark soaked after a fun-filled afternoon of baseball.

COMING UP: The RiverDogs have an off day Wednesday before embarking on a seven-game road trip to Delmarva and Hagerstown. In Thursday's series opener against Delmarva, LHP Justin Kamplain (3-11, 5.03 ERA) will get the start for Charleston against RHP Matthew Grimes (7-6, 4.41 ERA) for the Shorebirds.
