Seattle Reign FC Forward Beverly Yanez Voted NWSL Player of the Week

July 28, 2015 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

CHICAGO (July 28, 2015) - Seattle Reign FC forward Beverly Yanez has been voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 15 of the 2015 NWSL season.

Yanez, 27, scored two goals in the second half of Sunday's Cascadia clash to help seal Reign FC's 3-0 win in front of a sold-out crowd against the Portland Thorns FC on Sunday night at Moda Pitch and Memorial Stadium in Seattle, Wash. ( Watch Highlights)

The Moreno Valley, Calif. native's first goal came right out the gate in the 46th minute as she headed a cross from teammate Kim Little past Thorns FC goalkeeper Nadine Angerer. Yanez's goal helped Seattle take a controlling 2-0 lead over Portland, but her scoring success wouldn't stop there.

The University of Miami alum continued to impress with her second goal of the match, which came just four minutes after her first tally. Forward Megan Rapinoe's low cross into the box would connect with a sliding Yanez, solidifying Reign FC's 3-0 win.

Since the inaugural season, Yanez is the fifth Reign FC player to be honored as the NWSL Player of the Week. Teammate Jessica Fishlock received the award during Week 9 while Megan Rapinoe received the award during Week 1 of the 2015 season.

Seattle Reign FC will return to action Saturday, August 1 at 4:00 p.m. ET against the Boston Breakers at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Boston.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
