Wolf Named IL Pitcher of the Week

July 28, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

The International League today announced that Bisons LHP RANDY WOLF has been named the league's Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week of July 20-26.

Wolf went 2-0 this past week, not yielding a run in either of his two starts for the Bisons. The 38-year old veteran struck out a season-high nine batters in 7.2 shutout innings on Monday, July 20 in a 7-0 victory over the Chiefs. Wolf allowed just five singles and a walk in his best outing of the season. He then nearly repeated the performance five days later, striking out three in 6.0 shutout frames in a 6-0 Buffalo victory in Pawtucket on Saturday. Once again he allowed just five singles with a pair of walks in the victory.

The scoreless week lowered Wolf's season ERA to 2.57, second best among all qualifying International League pitchers. With 112.0 innings of work so far this season, Wolf needs just four more innings for his ERA to reach season-ending qualification. With a 7-1 record, Wolf has the best winning pct. (.875) in the IL.

Wolf also won the International League's Pitcher-of-the-Week award April 8-18, 1999 while pitching for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. The 16-year span is the longest in the awards history, surpassing another former Bison; INF/DH Russell Branyan (1999 with Buffalo to 2012 with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre).
