Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (46-57) dropped a doubleheader to the Sacramento River Cats (46-57) Monday afternoon at Isotopes Park. The Isotopes fell 10-0 in game one and 10-1 in game two.
THE TURNING POINT, GAME ONE: Albuquerque's offense never got going in game one of Monday's doubleheader, while Sacramento scored in all but two innings. After working around a leadoff walk in the first, Isotopes starter John Lannan didn't fare as well in the second inning, surrendering a pair of runs. The River Cats added a single run in the fourth and two in the fifth before capping the game with a five-run sixth inning.
THE TURNING POINT, GAME TWO: Game two proved to be much of the same as the Isotopes could only scratch across one run after Tim Wheeler tripled and scored on Jair Jurrjens' single in the third. The River Cats had already built a five-run lead by that point after three runs in the first and two in the second. Sacramento added four more runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth to pull away. PITCHERS CAN HIT TOO: Albuquerque and Sacramento starting pitchers combined to go 5-for-8 at the plate on the day with two runs scored and five RBI. Sacramento starter Ty Blach in game one was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, while Chris Stratton started game two and went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. The only Isotopes starting pitcher to record an at-bat was Jair Jurrjens, who went 1-for-1 with an RBI. ON DECK: The Isotopes will welcome the Salt Lake Bees to town for a four-game series beginning Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Left-handed pitcher Aaron Laffey (2-3, 4.78 ERA) is scheduled to start for Albuquerque, while Salt Lake has yet to announce its starter.
IN THE HOLE: Following this eight-game homestand, the Isotopes hit the road for a four-game swing against the Fresno Grizzlies on August 1-4. 22 of Albuquerque's next 30 games are at home.
