Iowa Cubs News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (July 27, 2015) - The Chicago Cubs today made a series of transactions affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game at Memphis. Left-handed pitcher Jeffry Antigua has been reassigned to Double-A Tennessee, left-handed pitcher Ryan Buchter has been added to Iowa's active roster and outfielder John Andreoli has been activated from the disabled list (oblique).
Antigua, 25, appeared in two games for Iowa in his fourth stint with the team this season. He tossed 6.0 shutout innings in a start against Memphis on Sunday night. Overall, Antigua is 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA (12ER/41.1IP) in 10 games (six starts) for Iowa this season.
Buchter, 28, went 0-0 with a 1.65 ERA (6ER/32.3IP), three saves and 39 strikeouts in 27 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City before being released by the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 20. Buchter (pronounced BOOK-ter) signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs on July 24.
This is Buchter's second stint in the Cubs' organization. He was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 33rd round of the 2005 June draft, then traded to Chicago on Nov. 3, 2008 in exchange for pitcher Matt Avery. The southpaw spent parts of three seasons in the minor leagues for the Cubs, reaching Double-A Tennessee before being traded to the Atlanta Braves on May 26, 2011 in exchange for pitcher Rodrigo Lopez.
Buchter has one game of major league experience. He made his major league debut on June 20, 2014 with the Braves and tossed a scoreless 12th inning to earn his first major league victory on the road against the Nationals.
Andreoli, 25, is batting .272 (56-for-206) with 19 stolen bases and 36 runs scored in 64 games for Iowa this season. He was placed on the 7-Day DL July 8 with a strained oblique.
With these moves, Iowa's active roster is full at 25 players plus one player on the disabled list and one player on a major league rehab assignment.
