Sams Wins Can-Am League Player of the Week

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Quebec Capitales OF Kailan Sams has been named this week's Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 26.
Sams was 11-for-22 over six games this week, collecting two doubles and a home run to go with nine RBI. He helped the Capitales to a 4-2 record over the week.
The native of The Hague, Netherlands started his week with a 2-for-4 game on Monday in a 6-1 loss to the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. He helped the Capitales rebound with a 9-5 win on Tuesday, going 2-for-4 again with an RBI, a walk and two runs scored. Trois-Rivieres took the series finale on Wednesday, but Sams was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Quebec finished off the week with a sweep of the Garden State Grays. In a 6-4 win on Thursday, Sams was 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a walk. Friday saw Sams log a 2-for-4 game with another home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a 7-2 win. Sams closed out the week with a 2-for-3 game on Saturday. He collected a double, two RBI and two runs scored in a 15-7 win over Garden State.
Sams is now hitting .263 (49-for-186) this season with 12 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 37 RBI. He spent two seasons in the Dutch Major League in 2005 and 2006 before moving his career stateside. Sams played with the Seattle Mariners system for six seasons and subsequently played in 2013 with the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers organizations. Sams played 24 games with the Class AAA Tucson Padres in 2013, marking his highest level of pro baseball. Sams spent the 2014 season with the Camden Riversharks in the Atlantic League before joining the Can-Am League for 2015.
The Capitales are just two games out of first place in the Can-Am League at 33-25. They open a road series with the Rockland Boulders on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Provident Bank Park. That game, like all Can-Am League games, is available live and for free on www.canamleague.tv.
