Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced for July 20-July 26

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 20th through July 26th:

Bowie Baysox second baseman Corban Joseph has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 20th-July 26th. The 26-year old hit .417 (10-for-24) with one double, one triple, five home runs, eight RBIs, eight runs scored, three walks and a 1.167 slugging percentage in six games for the Baysox last week. Joseph, who is a native of Franklin, Tennessee, reached base at least once in each of the six games he played in last week and had multiple hits in three of those games, finishing off his week by going 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs, a triple and four RBIs in a 10-3 win at Harrisburg on Sunday afternoon. The 6'0", 185 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in home runs (5), slugging percentage (1.167), OPS (1.648), extra-base hits (7) and total bases (28) last week. He also ranked among the weekly league leaders in RBIs (8-tied 2nd), runs scored (8-tied 3rd), triples (1-tied 3rd), batting average (.417-10th) and on-base percentage (.481-10th). Corban was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a Minor League Free Agent on June 16th after starting this season in the Atlanta organization. He was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the fourth round of the 2008 draft out of Franklin High School in Tennessee and spent the previous seven seasons in their organization.

Seth Lugo, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Binghamton Mets, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 20th-July 26th. The 6'4", 185 lb. hurler started a pair of games for the B-Mets last week and had a record of 2-0 with 16 strikeouts and a 0.64 ERA. Lugo, who is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, made his first start of the week on Monday night at New Britain and pitched seven strong innings to earn the win in Binghamton's 3-2 victory. He gave up one run on four hits while striking out eight batters and walking one. Seth was equally impressive in his second start of the week on Sunday evening at Trenton, scattering four hits over seven shutout innings to lead the B-Mets to an 8-0 victory over the Thunder. He finished with eight strikeouts and three walks while improving his record to 6-4 on the season and lower his ERA to 3.20. The 25-year old tied for the league lead in wins (2) and last week and also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in strikeouts (16-2nd), innings pitched (14.0-tied 2nd), ERA (0.64-7th), WHIP (0.86-tied 9th) and batting average against (.170-10th). Seth was selected by the New York Mets in the 34th round of the 2011 draft out of Centenary College in Louisiana.
