Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. -- Carlos Rivero and Jabari Blash each homered in the Tacoma Rainiers 12-5 win over the Fresno Grizzlies at Cheney Stadium on Sunday.

The two Rainiers combined to drive in five runs, beginning with a go-ahead three-run homer from Rivero that put Tacoma on top 4-3 in the fourth. After delivering a walk-off home run in the Rainiers win on Saturday, Blash provided the difference again, belting a two-run shot to left field that broke open a 5-5 game in the sixth.

Blash's go-ahead blast marked his fourth home run over his last ten games. Since a promotion to the Rainiers on July 16, the outfielder has recorded hits in nine of 11 games, and is batting .275 (11x40) with five extra-base hits and 11 RBI.

Catcher Steve Baron ended the day 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, leading a Rainiers lineup that collected a total of 11 against the Grizzlies. Jesus Montero and Justin Ruggiano turned in the team's other multi-hit outings after each collected a pair of hits.

The first baseman Montero now ranks second in the Pacific Coast League with a .337 batting average through his first 90 games played this season. He leads the PCL with 123 hits and sits second with 73 RBI. In six games since being transferred to Tacoma from Seattle on July 19, Montero is batting .400 (10x25) with three doubles and five RBI.

Jordan Pries (5-3) limited the Grizzlies to five runs - four earned - on nine hits through 6.0 innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked two in his 13th start with the Rainiers this season. Relievers Mayckol Guiape (1.0) and Andrew Kittredge (2.0) combined to surrender just four hits, walk one, and fan three through 3.0 innings.

The Rainiers (48-54) host the final game of the club's four-set with Fresno (58-44) at 11:35 a.m. tomorrow, July 27. Left-hander Roenis Elias (3-0, 6.14) is expected to start for the Rainiers. Right-hander Brady Rodgers (8-5, 4.26) is slated to get the start for the Grizzlies.
