Santa Krizan Delivers on Christmas in July

The Erie SeaWolves snapped a five game losing streak as they defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels in walk on fashion, 5-4 on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park.

The SeaWolves struck first in the opening frame when Jeff McVaney doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Jason Krizan then picked up his first hit of the evening when he singled home McVaney for a 1-0 lead.

The Wolves added onto their lead in the third when Wynton Bernard crushed a two-out triple to keep the inning alive. After a walk issued to McVaney, Krizan cleared the bases with a double and Erie built a 3-0 lead.

The SeaWolves extended the lead in the fourth and James Robbins belted his fourth home run of the season to right for a 4-0 lead.

Richmond responded in the fifth as Myles Schroder smacked a leadoff single and Jackson Williams was hit by a pitch, which put two men on for Richmond. A Jesus Glindo sacrifice bunt moved both runners over and back-to-back singles by Engel Beltre and Rando Moreno drove two runners in as the lead was cut in half, 4-2.

The Squirrels continued to creep closer in the sixth when Ricky Oropesa blasted his 12th homer of the year, as Richmond narrowed the lead to 4-3.

The Flying Squirrels tied the game up 4-4 in the seventh. Austin Slater and Mitch Delfino hit back-to-back singles with one out, which put two men for Devin Harris. A Harris two-out RBI double plated Slater and knotted the game.

With two outs in the ninth, McVaney walked and stole second which brought Krizan to the plate. McVaney stole second and scored on a Krizan walkoff single for a 5-4 win.

SeaWolves pitcher Montreal Robertson (1-1) picked up the win in relief of starter Tommy Collier. Robertson gave up a run on five hits, a walk and five strikeouts in three innings of work.
