Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals took a pair of early leads Saturday against the Montgomery Biscuits, who rallied and pulled away in an 11-6 Biscuits win at The Ballpark at Jackson. Tyler Bortnick drove in three runs on two hits, and D.J. Peterson launched his seventh home run of the season to get a quick lead for Jackson before suffering its third straight loss to Montgomery.

A crowd of 2,712 was at The Ballpark for Christmas in July presented by A+ Insurance, featuring postgame fireworks and an ugly Christmas sweater t-shirt giveaway. Prior to the seventh-inning stretch, the American flag behind the outfield wall was raised from half-staff during the singing of God Bless America by the Casey Jones Chorus in a ceremony that honored the victims of a recent shooting in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Biscuits (17-11, 51-45) took the lead for good with a six-run spurt in the top of the third. Patrick Leonard tied the contest at 3-3 with a 416-foot home run to left field that bounced off and over the clubhouse roof. Later in the frame with two outs, Tyler Goeddel drew a bases-loaded walk that gave Montgomery a 4-3 lead. Justin O'Conner scored on a wild pitch shortly ahead of a two-run single by Hector Guevara to push the Biscuits to a three-run advantage.

Montgomery added another rally in the fourth inning and grabbed a 10-3 lead. Dayron Varona and Johnny Field Jr. produced back-to-back RBI singles to kick off the scoring. Jake Bauers delivered a run-scoring single of his own near the end of the frame.

Earlier in the contest, Jackson (8-20, 37-59) jumped out to leads in the first and second innings. Peterson cleared the 24-foot-high wall in left field with a go-ahead solo shot in the opening frame. After Montgomery tied the contest in the top of second, Tyler Bortnick responded with a two-run double in the bottom of the frame to put Jackson ahead, 3-1. However, that lead was wiped away by Montgomery's six-run third.

The Generals attempted a comeback but only answered in the sixth with three runs. Julio Morban's RBI double, Aderlin Rodriguez's sacrifice fly, and Bortnick's RBI single pulled Jackson to a 10-6 deficit. The Biscuits got one run back in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Varona to reach the winning margin of 11-6.

Jake Faria earned the win and boosted his record to 3-2. He retired eight straight batters in one stretch, finishing with five runs allowed - three earned - in 5.1 innings pitched. Misael Siverio (4-10) took the loss with seven runs yielded over just 2.2 innings. Mark Sappington's three-inning save to cap Saturday's contest was his second Biscuits save of the season.

This week-long homestand closes Sunday at 6:05 p.m. CT with the finale between the Generals and the Biscuits. Jackson right-hander Moises Hernandez (3-6, 4.46) will face Biscuits right-hander Jaime Schultz (5-5, 4.20). Fans unable to attend Sunday's game can listen to the action on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) starting at 5:50 p.m. CT on the Jackson Generals Pregame Show protected by the Tennessee Army National Guard. An online video stream is also available via MiLB.TV.

Sunday's homestand finale comes on a BancorpSouth Family FunDay Sunday. All children age 12 and under receive a free general admission ticket, free ice cream and free admission to the newly-revamped Fun Zone. This will be Jackson's final home game before returning to The Ballpark next month for a five-game homestand from Sunday, August 2 through Thursday, August 6.
