Augusta GreenJackets News Release

AUGUSTA, GA: Wednesday, July 22nd the Augusta GreenJackets returned home to Lake Olmstead Stadium after a seven game road trip. The GreenJackets returned with a record of 13-11 and sat in second place of the SAL Southern Division standings. As the GreenJackets 47-48 (14-12) welcomed in the third place Greenville Drive 50-46 (12-14). Pat Young (7-1 ERA 3.23) and Jeffry Fernandez (3-8 6.07) would make the scheduled start. After a dominating pitching performance on the mound by Pat Young and an even more impressive hitting show put on by the GreenJackets batters, Augusta took home an eleven to three victory.

It did not take long for the GreenJackets to put runs on the board in the first inning. Johneshwy Fargas did his best one-man act to score the first run of the game. Fargas singled to center field, stole second base, moved over on a fielder's choice, and then crossed home on a missed catch error by pitcher Jeffery Fernandez. Later Jonah Arenado doubled to right-center field to score Aramis Garcia from second base. With Arenado still on second base, Chuckie Jones hit a high fly ball that cleared the left field wall to extend the GreenJackets lead to four runs.

After four scoreless innings, the Drive managed to push across a run in the top of the fifth inning. The Drive's single run was overshadowed, by the GreenJackets answering with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Jonah Arenado added two more RBI to his stat sheet tonight by singling in Andrew Cain and Will Callaway. After a Skyler Ewing walk that loaded that bases, Chuckie Jones also walked in a run to put the final run of the frame up for the GreenJackets.

Once again in the sixth inning, the Drive put up runs and the GreenJackets answered right back with runs of their own. Aramis Garcia continued to up his RBI count with a 2 RBI single to center field to score Callaway and Fargas. At the end of the sixth inning the GreenJackets led with a score of nine to three.

Pat Young left the game after pitching five and two thirds innings. Young allowed six hits, two earned runs, and struck out three. Young left the game in line for his GreenJackets high seventh victory of the season. After two more runs were added in the seventh inning by Andrew Cain's fifth home run of the year the GreenJackets put the game on cruise control to victory. Wednesday night's final scoreboard would read three runs, seven hits, and one error for the Greenville Drive and eleven hits, ten runs, and two errors for the victorious Augusta GreenJackets.

Thursday night the GreenJackets and Drive will be set to take the field at 7:05pm. The scheduled starting pitching match up includes RHP Chris Johnson (1-2 ERA 5.24) vs. RHP Reed Reilly (4-3 ERA 4.26).
