Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Binghamton Mets launched three home runs, including a pinch-hit grand slam by Jared King, and claimed sole possession of first place in a 9-5 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats on Wednesday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. The B-Mets completed a three-game sweep and earned their sixth straight win. Michael Fulmer matched a career-high with nine strikeouts in Binghamton's eleventh victory in twelve games.

Binghamton started their home run derby in the second against Rock Cats starter Ryan Carpenter. Xorge Carrillo snuck the lefty's 1-0 pitch over the left-field wall for his sixth homer of the season. Josh Rodriguez joined the party in the third, blasting his league-leading 15th round-tripper to left to double Binghamton's lead.

The B-Mets put the game out of reach in the sixth against reliever Gus Schlosser. With the bases loaded, King pinch-hit for Fulmer and rocketed a 1-1 pitch beyond the right-field fence for his first home run since late April. Binghamton's fifth grand slam of the year pushed the visitor's lead to eight. Michael Conforto capped the five-run frame with an RBI single.

Fulmer powered through five scoreless innings. The righty allowed a half-dozen hits and saw eight runners reach, but stranded them all, including two runners in each of his final three frames.

The Rock Cats refused to go down without a fight. New Britain hung three runs on reliever Beck Wheeler in the sixth, ending the righty's seven-game scoreless streak. Akeel Morris and Adam Kolarek each surrendered leadoff homers in the seventh and eighth, respectively.

Josh Smoker silenced New Britain and completed the sweep with a perfect ninth.

Fulmer (5-2) collected nine strikeouts for the third time in his career and earned his third win in four starts. Carpenter (5-11) lasted four innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits.

The B-Mets (53-43) head to Trenton for a four-game series against the Thunder starting Thursday at 7:00 PM. RHP John Gant makes the start opposite RHP Joel De La Cruz. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:45 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
