Lake Erie Defeats Washington 17-3

WASHINGTON, PA - The Washington Wild Things took on the Lake Erie Crushers Tuesday night in the opening game of a three-game series at CONSOL Energy Park. The Crushers were able to put together 18 hits as they defeated the Wild Things 17-3. Starter Ernesto Zaragoza suffered the loss for the Wild Things, while Crushers starter Hunter Adkins took the victory.

Lake Erie was able to jump out to an early lead in the first inning, set up by three-straight doubles to start off the game. In total, the Crushers scored eight runs in the top of the first inning, four of which came off of the bat of right fielder Chandler Brock. The Crushers would go on to add two more runs in the top of the second inning.

The early explosion continued for Lake Erie in the top of the third where they scored seven more runs. Catcher Jose Barraza hit a two-run double, but was thrown out advancing to third to end the inning. Washington was able to hold Lake Erie scoreless for the rest of the night.

The Wild Things would add a few runs of their own via shortstop Austin Wobrock's first home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth. Second baseman Sam Mende would also have an RBI in the inning, scoring center fielder Andrew Heck.

Designated hitter Matt Peters added the Wild Things' final run of the night with an RBI single that scored Wobrock in the bottom of the seventh. The Wild Things bullpen would add some great relief in the final innings, but Washington would ultimately be defeated 17-3.
