Former RiverKings Goalie Steve Briere Named Maple Leafs Goalie Coach

TORNOTO, Ont. - Former Memphis RiverKings goalie Steve Briere was named the Goalie Coach of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs, the team announced Monday.

Briere, a Winnipeg, Manitoba native, played for the RiverKings at the tail end of the 1999-00 season, after ending his collegiate career with the University of Alabama-Huntsville. In seven games with the RiverKings, Briere went 2-4-0 with a 3.27 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage. He posted two of the team's nine wins during their 1999-00 season.

After his brief stint with the RiverKings, Briere played professional hockey through 2008 and had stops in the AHL, ECHL, IHL and SPHL, in addition to several years in Europe. He has been a goalie coach with several juniors teams in both the USHL and NAHL since 2009.

The Mississippi RiverKings are proud to be the longest, continually operating sports franchise in the Memphis area, as they begin their 24th season in 2015. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, October 23 at the Landers Center.
