 Medicine Hat Tigers

2nd Annual Alumni Golf Tournament Completed

July 20, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB -- It was a wet and rainy Friday afternoon at the Tigers 2nd annual Alumni Golf Tournament, as the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club saw 30 teams hit the course showcasing decades of Tigers alumni.

Among those on the course were current Washington Capitals forward Jason Chimera who made the trek down from his hometown Edmonton, AB to join in the festivities. 6 former teammates were also in attendance as Jason Prosofsky, Cal Zankowski, Clayton Gainer, Murray Garbutt, Mark Woolf and Kirby Lindal all were apart of the last Tigers team to win the Memorial Cup in 1987.

The afternoon was filled with support as 51 local sponsors joined in to donate prizes to the silent and live auctions, sponsor holes or golf carts, looking to break the $20,000 barrier once again this year. Proceeds from the tournament went towards the Medicine Hat Food Bank and the Tigers Education Fund.

The tournament saw players from every skill level come together but at the end of the day, it was 1989-1991 Tiger Mike Reimer's foursome coming out on top as the best team in the tournament, taking home some signed Tigers jerseys.

The worst team of the tournament went to current Tigers assistant coach and 2007 WHL Champion Jerrid Sauer's team who had a blast on the course, but just couldn't put together the score they wanted to, taking home gift cards for their efforts.

The tournament dollar figures are still being calculated to see how much money has been raised this year, but overall the tournament was a success according to tournament coordinators and Tigers Manager, Communications Ryan Plysiuk "The tournament was great again this year. We had lots of support from fans and sponsors and getting another 25+ alumni to Medicine Hat is always great as these were some of the best years of their life. We look forward to hosting the 3rd annual tournament next summer!"
