Rockford Aviators News Release

Loves Park, ILLINOIS - The Rockford Aviators dropped both games of their Sunday doubleheader to the River City Rascals Sunday, falling by scores of 6-4 and 3-2. The wins earned the Rascals the sweep in the 4-game set.

Kyle Brueggemann took to the hill for the Aviators in Game 1. The Aviators built him a 4-3 lead heading into the 7th courtesy of a 5-hit, 4-explosion in the bottom of the 1st. The Olathe, KS native, for his part, went 5.2 innings while surrendering 3 runs. The lead the team established lasted them into the 7th, when the Rascals were able to capitalize for 3 tallies, 2 on an RBI single by Curran Redal, to take a 2-run advantage that they would not relinquish.

In Game 2, it was Kyle Hassna going to the hill for the Rockford boys. Hassna kept the Rascals scoreless through 4 before surrendering a 2-run homer to Zach Kometani. Michael Hur would answer with a blast of his own in the bottom of the 5th to halve the Rascal lead, 2-1

Taylor Ard homered for River City in the 6th to re-inflate the lead to 2, but once again it was the longball that brought the Aviators back. Cody Lenahan teed off Joe Scanio for a homer in the 7th and final inning to make it a 1-run game. The Aviators would get no closer though, as Zac Treece came out of the bullpen to finish it off for River City and earn the save.

The Aviators now have 2 days off before departing for a a 6-game road trip to Florence and Shaumburg on July 22nd.
