Canaries Sign Catcher Steve Sulcoski, Release Infielder Ramjit

Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Canaries announced on Sunday that they have signed catcher Steve Sulcoski and released infielder Vickash Ramjit.

The 24-year-old Sulcoski holds a .263 batting average in two professional seasons, working primarily as a back-up catcher for the Atlantic League's York Revolution, Somerset Patriots, and United Leauge's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.

Sulcoski also appeared in 12 games this season for the Frontier League's Normal Cornbelters before catching on with the Birds.

The right-handed hitting catcher/first baseman will primarily handle the backup catching duties behind Tyler Shover while the club's every-day catcher, Richard Stock recovers from a lower back injury on the disabled list.

Ramjit was released after posting a .212 batting average in 46 games for the Canaries.

Sulcoski and the Birds' open up an eight-game road-trip on Sunday evening with a four-game series against the Wichita WingNuts at Lawrence Dumont Stadium. Fans can catch all the action live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio, KWSN. AM-1230 and FM-98.1 with the "Voice of the Canaries," JJ Hartigan.
