(Burlington-IA)- The Burlington Bees (44-48) lost game one of a three game series with the Peoria Chiefs (47-44), 7-4, Saturday night at Community Field in Burlington.
Nick Thompson opened the top of the second inning with a double to center, giving the Chiefs thier first runner in scoring position. After moving to third base on a Steve Bean ground out, Thompson came home to score on a passed ball, putting the Chiefs on top, 1-0.
Alex DeLeon opened the fourth inning with a double to left, and moved to third on a Nick Thompson single. After Steve Bean struck out looking, Jake Gronsky hit a three run home run to center field, upping the Peoria lead to 4-0. The next batter, Kenny Peoples-Walls, hit a solo home run to left field, making the score 5-0. With two runners on in the top of the fifth inning, Steve Bean made it a 6-0 game with a single to right, scoring Paul DeJong.
Natanael Delgado smacked a one out double to right, giving the Bees their first runner in scoring position of the game. After an error put runners at the corners, Erick Salcedo hit a fly ball to right, scoring Delgado, cutting the Chiefs' lead to 6-1. Jake Yacinich extended his hitting streak to six games, linging a triple to right center. After Nick Flair walked, Zach Houchins launched a home run to left, a three run shot, pulling the Bees to within two, at 6-4.
Peoria went on to add an insurance run in the ninth and the Bees fell, 7-4. Peoria starter, Austin Gomber (9-3) earned the win while Bees' starter, Keynan Middleton (4-7) was charged with the loss and Kyle Grana (12) picked up the save. The Bees and the Chiefs continue the series Sunday at 2:00 when Justin Anderson starts for the Bees against Jack Flaherty for Peoria.
