Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Sacramento River Cats notched a 4-3 extra-inning win over the Tacoma Rainiers at Cheney Stadium on Friday night, extending the Rainiers losing skid to a season-high six games.
Rainiers starting pitcher Roenis Elias provided the club's third quality start of the month, working 6.0 frames and allowing two runs on seven hits - he struck out three and issued no walks.
The Tacoma lineup managed five hits and struck out 10 times. No member of the starting nine recorded multiple hits, and Jabari Blash provided the only RBI with his fourth-inning home run.
Adam Duvall's league-leading 21st home run in the top of the fourth inning provided the first run of the game and gave Sacramento a 1-0 lead.
Blash erased the River Cats lead in the bottom of the fourth with his third home run of the season, plating Leon Landry and Justin Ruggiano to boost the Rainiers to a 3-1 lead.
RBI singles from Kelby Tomlinson in the fifth and Ryan Lollis in the seventh gave Sacramento a pair of runs and knotted the score up at 3-3 and ultimately send the game to extras.
Lollis, who finished the game 5-for-6, doubled to open up the top of the 12th inning and came around to score the winning run on a Juan Perez RBI single two batters later.
Andrew Kittredge (0-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season after allowing the winning run in the 12th inning. Mayckol Guaipe and Danny Farquhar combined to hold the River Cats scoreless over 4.0 innings, allowing a total of five hits and fanning one. Edgar Olmos relieved Elias in the seventh and allowed one unearned run on two hits in one frame.
Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (0-1, 3.00) makes his Cheney Stadium debut for Tacoma (44-49) as they take on Sacramento (41-52) in game three of the series tomorrow, July 18. The River Cats are expected to counter with righty Tommy Hanson (0-2, 5.87). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
