Squirrels Squeak by with Doubleheader Sweep of Curve

RICHMOND, Va. - The Altoona Curve were swept in a double-header against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 2-0 and 2-1, on Friday night at The Diamond.
The Curve (49-43) held the Flying Squirrels (47-44) to just ten hits over the two games, but were only able to plate one run in the combined fourteen innings.
After a dropped fly ball in the first inning by Jose Osuna in game one, Richmond scored two runs with two outs against Curve starter Chad Kuhl (Loss, 7-4) on RBI by Mitch Delfino and Ricky Oropesa.
Kuhl worked six innings, allowing just five hits with no walks and no earned runs while striking out three.
Richmond starter Kelvin Marte (Win, 8-2) held the Curve to just five hits to pick up the complete-game shutout.
Max Moroff went 2-for-3 for the Curve in game one.
In the second game, Altoona jumped ahead in the first inning with an RBI single by Dan Gamache, but Richmond starter Matt Gage (Win, 1-0) settled in to allow just the one run on seven hits over five innings in his Double-A debut.
After Curve starter Matt Benedict (Loss, 4-4) departed with two on and two outs, reliever Jeremy Bleich gave up an RBI single to Oropesa to tie the game and Engel Beltre gave the Squirrels a 2-1 lead with an RBI infield single.
Tyler Mizenko (Save, 2) pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to close out the Richmond win.
Clario Perez worked one scoreless inning for the Curve.
The Curve and Flying Squirrels continue the series on Saturday night at The Diamond. Lefty Steven Brault (1-3, 4.74) starts on the mound for Altoona, with lefty Adalberto Mejia (4-1, 2.78) pitching for Richmond. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
