Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today re-signed forward Stefan Matteau to a two- year contract with an annual average value of $612,500. The announcement was made by Devils' General Manager Ray Shero.
Matteau, 21, will enter his third full year with the Devils' organization after spending the 2014-15 season with both Albany (AHL) and New Jersey. He appeared in 61 games with the A-Devils last season, finishing tied for sixth on the club in scoring with 12g- 15a-27pts and 40 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 220-lb. forward notched one goal and 4 PIM in seven contests with New Jersey. Matteau made his NHL debut in 2012-13, before returning to Blainville-Boisbriand (QMJHL). He has 2g-2a-4pts and 10 PIM in 24 career NHL games, as well as 25g-28a-53pts and 106 PIM in 128 career AHL matches over the past two seasons. Born February 23, 1994 in Chicago, IL, he spent two seasons (2010-11 & 2011-12) with the United States Development Program. He represented Team USA at the 2014 World Junior Championships, and was selected for 2015 World Championships, but did not play due to injury. Matteau was New Jersey's first choice and 29th overall selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Matteau was a member of the Team USA's championship squad at the 2011 Under-18 Vlad Dzurilla tournament in Slovakia, and of the Silver Medal-winning team at the 2011 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge. He played for the 2009-10 Canadian National Champion Notre Dame Hounds (Sask.) and won a Gold Medal with Team USA at the 2010 Four Nations Cup.
