Wilmington, Charleston Encounter Once More
July 16, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - Following a bye weekend in their schedule, Wilmington Hammerheads FC travels to Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday, July 18 to encounter the Charleston Battery for the fourth time during the USL regular season. Saturday's match is the second game for the Hammerheads on Battery turf this year, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
Despite the Hammerheads' current record of 2-9-6, their previous encounters against the steady, second-place Battery squad earlier in the season have not proven easy for either side. Charleston holds a 2-0-1 record in the series against Wilmington, but only by a two goal differential.
"Our players are excited for the game in Charleston," said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. "We obviously know their team and feel good about the matchups and are going after three points, we certainly need them."
The two teams last faced off at Legion Stadium in early June with Wilmington nearly taking home their first victory over Charleston if not for an own goal in the final minutes of the match to even the score. The Hammerheads have struggled to find the back of the net this season, scoring a total of 11 goals overall and allowing 23 in from their opponents. Charleston has notched a total of 30 goals already this season, allowing only 17 to hit the back of the net by their opponents.
Wilmington's away record has proven to work in their favor at 2-6-1 versus their home record of 0-3-5 so far this season. Nick Zimmerman still leads the Hammerheads in scoring with three goals this season, while newcomer Qudus Lawal is still searching for his first goal with the Hammerheads after making his debut with the team last month.
Charleston hosts West Bromwich Albion of the English Premier League on Friday night prior to welcoming the Hammerheads.
Wilmington is scheduled to host their next home match on Saturday, July 25 at 7:00 p.m. EDT at Legion Stadium versus Louisville City FC. Flex packages and single tickets are available for purchase online. For more information regarding Wilmington Hammerheads FC, please contact (910) 777-2111 or visit www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com.
