RedWolves Top SwampDogs, 5-3

FLORENCE, S.C.- With the help from a four run seventh inning, the 20-18, 5-6 second half) Florence RedWolves were able to escape with their fourth straight victory, beating the (15-23, 3-8 second half) Fayetteville SwampDogs by a score of 5-3 in Sparrow Stadium Wednesday night.

Joey Lucchesi started on the mound for the Swampdogs and was absolutely masterful. Through the six innings that Lucchesi tossed, he held the RedWolves scoreless on three hits, two walks, and notched nine strikeouts. Fayetteville went to the bullpen in the seventh for Kent Williams, which brought the demise for Fayetteville.

Josh Reagan worked the first four innings of the game for Florence giving up one run on two hits one walk, and seven strikeouts, before Cole Lee would come in for hm in the fifth.

In the bottom of the seventh, Fayetteville entered the frame with two to nothing lead over Florence with an RBI single from KiJana Madden in the first and an RBI single from Jimmy Faul in the fifth.

Williams did not record a single out in the seventh before being pulled. Chaz Pal led off the inning recording his second hit of the night, a double into left field. He then advanced to third on a wild pitch as Matt Williams singled him in on the next pitch. Ray Lanners followed with a bunt single, dribbling into no-mans land, reaching safely putting runners on first and second. That is when Williams had the ball taken from him, recording no outs, giving up three runs two earned, on three hits. Alex Siddle worked the final two frames, and his first batter he faced was, Drew Wharton, who too singled on a bunt. After a strikeout, Andrew Castillo hit a sacrifice fly into right field, scoring Williams on third to tie the game. With runners in scoring position, Nathan Wierzgac hit a groundball to the shortstop, Roman, who sailed the throw past Upshaw, allowing both runners to score making it a 4-2 game.

Cole Lee threw the fifth, sixth, and seventh for Florence, surrendering just one run on four hits.

Brett Porter took over in the eighth inning, went just two-thirds of the inning, as he gave up a run on two hits and a walk. After recording a strikeout and fly out to right, Austin Upshaw doubled to left center, as well as CJ Needham, pushing the SwampDogs closer, 4-3.

Florence added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as ray lanners recorded his third single of the night, scoring Chaz Pal who led off the inning with his second double of the night, extending the lead 5-3.

Tyler Keele came in for the four-out save, earning his sixth of the season, while walking one and tacking on another strikeout.

Cole Lee found himself to pick up his second win on the season (2-1) as Kent Williams draws another loss (1-5).

The RedWolves improve to 21-5, 6-6 second half on the season and sit 2.5 games out of first place behind the Grizzlies.

Florence will be back home Thursday, July 16th, to host the High Point Thomasville HiToms. Gates open at 6:00pm, first pitch is slated for 7:00pm.
